Project scope: The new 5th Ave Taylor Pavilion facility covers approximately 6,800 square feet. The Borough designated 1,300 square feet as concession space for an outside tenant to rent. The remaining space includes a large multi-purpose room with an ocean view, a kitchenette, toilet rooms, and a beach badge sale office. The building sits on the beach side of the existing boardwalk.

This facility sits about 9 feet above the beach, supported by eighty-one 10-inch diameter steel piles. The construction team drove these piles to a depth of approximately 40 feet below the beach, then filled them with concrete.

These steel piles support the building’s elevated reinforced cast-in-place waffle slab. The slab consists of reinforced concrete beams and an 8-inch-thick structural slab. The team placed the slab monolithically in one day, using around 300 cubic yards of concrete.

The building structure includes wood framing, steel columns, and engineered wood roof trusses. The design ensures it can withstand forces from major storms like hurricanes. The exterior windows and rear sliding window wall systems are rated for hurricanes. Inside, the floor finishes consist of LVT, VCT, and ceramic tile. The exterior finishes include fiber cement board siding and Azek composite trim, installed after the contractor applied a full spray-on vapor barrier to the building substrate.

While the Borough of Belmar built the surrounding boardwalk and railings, we were responsible for driving about 100 wood piles to support the new boardwalk.
